The Blurb:
Kate has taken to life on the remote Scottish island of Auchenmor like a seal to water: she's given a new lease of life to the Laird's estate in her day job; she's befriended the once-nosy locals; and even young Laird Roddy is not quite so grumpy these days.
Better still, Kate has just had her best idea yet: they'll turn the castle into the most gorgeous wedding venue in Scotland. The pressure's on as the first wedding is booked in for Christmas Eve - just weeks away. But with a mismatched bride and groom, a hysterical PR on her case, her own relationship woes and a huge storm blowing in, can Kate pull it off in time?
The Review:
I adored this novella as much as Sealed with a Kiss as I just loved being drawn back in Auchenmor and it's glorious island life. It was heart-warming and delightful and had the most amazing Christmassy, wintry feel which wasn't over the top.
The snowy atmosphere really made me fall in love with Auchenmor even more and the whole idea of being on a remote island is incredibly tempting.
I love how Duntarvie House is being used as a wedding venue as it just seems to be the most perfect place to host such delightful celebrations. In a way it sort of reminds me of the castle in Beauty and the Beast as it just has that kind of atmosphere to it. I remember the Hogmanay festivities in Sealed with a Kiss and think that people wouldn't tire of using the ballroom for such grand festivities as it would be a fabulous place to let your hair down and have a good time.
I loved getting to know Sian, Maddy and Leo and I felt that I could relate to Maddy as I know what it's like to be in a relationship with someone who you think you know. I also loved catching up with the locals as they seem like old friends and I really like a book that gives you that feeling. It was all familiar and quite homely, and I think anyone who can create that in their writing is truly wonderful.
I thought that Rachael really captured the true sense of a bridezilla through Kate and thoroughly loved how she went from the whole "it's not happening like this" mood to stressing about every minor detail as it captured just how unexpected life can be (and how much someone may feel like they need a good bottle of wine and some comfort food to sort themselves out).
Yet again Rachael has wrote a delightful and charming book with gorgeous scenery and charming characters, that you can't help greeting like old friends, which really draws you in and provides a wonderful escapism. I cannot wait to read her next book; Coming up with Roses, which is out in May as I can't wait to find out what kind of world I'll get drawn into next.
